I was traveling on business with my CEO and was tasked with finding a good high-end Japanese restaurant for a group of 4 people. Finding a restaurant that was both classy and traditional was not too easy in Naha where most restaurants tended to be...either casual or Westernized, however I was very pleased with our experience at Ryukyu Cuisine Mie. The upper floor consists of 3-4 individual tatami rooms and the lower floor consists of rooms that offer western style seating. The environment is very intimate and the service provided is Japanese formal. The food is traditional Okinawan and presentation was exquisitely delicate. We picked the middle 9000 yen set menu and the food itself was superb (we wished there was more of it!). The restaurant accepts cash only and reservation is required as there is only a few rooms and the food requires prepping. All in all this was one fine dining experience that I will not forget.More

This restaurant specializes in Okinawan royal dishes and is fairly exclusive. Booking is a must but it is easier to book during the day than in the evening when phones go unanswered. One chooses from a series of courses 6,000 yen, 9,000 yen and 12,000...yen. We chose the middle courseYou are ushered into the restaurant and shown to an individual room. This is Japanese style Tatami but very comfortable. Dishes are served individually with a brief explanation (in Japanese) of what they contain. Of particular note were the pork slice coated in black sesami - it was impressive how they managed to keep the pork tender given that it was so thin. The pigs ear was equally impressive - I am not normally an offal fan but the offal here was so well prepared it was really delicious. Alcohol was reasonable - we drank awamori - the Okinawan shochu which was very tasty and complemented the meal superbly. Not only a nice meal but a very nice experience as well.More
